The Psych/MACC degree is designed for students who wish to become ethical professional counselors skilled in treating mental health and addiction disorders. The psychology major can be followed as a 3+3 curricular track leading to potential matriculation into the MACC program in the senior year.
Political Science isn’t just for students who aspire to work in government. Those seeking careers in law, business, journalism, teaching, or nonprofits benefit from understanding policy and politics. Alvernia students have an opportunity to earn college credit by spending a semester or summer in Washington, D.C., competing on the Mock Trial Team, serving as interns in a congressional office, government agency, major corporation, newspaper or news network, or agencies devoted to legal affairs, international relations, or business and economics.
Mathematics is one of Alvernia's highest paying and most sought after majors. Furthermore, math majors consistently score high on entrance exams for medical school and law school. Alvernia’s Early Childhood Education (PK-4) and Special Education (PK-12) Certifications dual major unlocks an unlimited career potential. The program prepares teachers for preschool through Grade 4 and special education teachers in public and private educational institutions. The program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The dual certification allows program graduates to work as:
• Elementary educators (preschool though Grade 4)
• Special education teachers and learning support specialists (preschool though Grade 12)
in public and private educational institutions.

The John and Karen Arnold School of Nursing at Alvernia University prepares future nursing professionals to enter the field ready to provide skillful, compassionate healthcare in virtually every setting, from community health clinics and hospitals to schools and nursing homes to emergency and disaster relief sites. Combining theory with clinical practice, the curriculum develops the skill set necessary for nurses to not only address the physical and psychological needs of their patients across the lifespan, but also to educate and advocate, counsel, research and problem solve with sensitivity and understanding.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program leading to an Associate in Science degree is a dual enrolled degree program between Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences (RHSHS) and Alvernia University. In addition to the Associate in Science degree, graduates will receive a Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from RHSHS. Graduates of the DMS Program are eligible to take the national credentialing exams through the American Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) upon completion.
