Alvernia University's Residence Hall Association (RHA) hosted its annual Trunk-or-Treat on Tuesday, Oct. 27, drawing over 450 attendees and doubling attendance of previous years.

"It's always an immense honor to be a part of such a wholesome community," Area Coordinator and RHA Advisor, Tim Hornbuckle '23. "From seeing our spirited students and the engagement of faculty and staff members, to all of our smiling and joyous Reading neighbors that attended this year's Trunk or Treat, the whole evening felt like a genuine and heartfelt space where everyone could enjoy the event. I'm looking forward to the continued growth of Alvernia University RHA's Trunk or Treat for years to come."

Over 80 student volunteers, as well as faculty and staff, dressed up in costumes and decked out their cars to welcome the families. One group had kids enter a "scream zone" that matched their Monsters, Inc.-themed car. Another group brought a tractor-trailer truck, where the kids were so excited to honk the horn. Alvernia's dining partner, Pack Hospitality, even curated a special fall food truck menu for attendees to enjoy. For many, the event is a highlight of the fall semester.

"My favorite part about being part of Trunk or Treat was being able to be a small part of the excitement for the young trick-or-treaters in the community. I've always found this event to be so special because it's one of the biggest events we hold that brings the community together on our campus," said Jamielyn Kelley. "I also loved seeing how excited all of the volunteers were to show off their trunks and greet the kids. Everyone was so creative."

Additionally, students earned community service hours for participating in the event, which count toward their graduation requirements.

"I loved getting to be involved in something that gave back to the community," said volunteer Amory Cherfils. "Getting to see all of the creatively decorated cars and costumes was also super fun."
