Header School of Business College of Distinction

Students place in top 5% in Bloomberg Global Trading Competition

Alvernia University’s Header School of Business, recently named following the university’s largest alumni gift in its history, earned a national endorsement from Colleges of Distinction (COD), an online platform that aids college-bound students in the college decision process and honors colleges and universities for their excellence.

"This latest recognition comes on the heels of our business programs now being a named school, The Header School of Business, a top 5% finish by our students in the Bloomberg Global Trading competition, and the integration of Bloomberg Terminal in our business courses,” said Dean of the College of Business, Communication and Leadership, Travis Berger, Ph.D. “I am glad that our focus on developing ethical high performers who know how to add immediate value continues to get recognized. Our graduates remain in high demand because organizations know they are getting polished business professionals prepared to make a positive difference on day one."

Combining classroom and experiential learning, the Header School of Business provides the foundations for careers in accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, management, sport management, and economics. Students learn from accomplished practitioners with decades of experience in their respective fields and regularly research and publish on the latest business trends. The curriculum also emphasizes data analytics and ethical business practices to help prepare our students to navigate the dynamic business landscape.

“Advanced technology, alternative business models and the rise in entrepreneurship are redefining the way we do business and creating new and innovative platforms for global commerce,” said Senior Vice President and Provost, Leamor Kahanov, Ed.D. “Alvernia University’s business programs put students at the forefront and prepare them to excel in the workforce of the future.”

The Header School of Business is housed in the state-of-the-art John R. Post Center at Reading CollegeTowne, replete with Bloomberg Terminal, the leading business platform for providing real-time and historical data, market-moving news, and analytics, the stock market ticker highlighting the business trading lab. Students have access to many experiential learning opportunities, including The O’Pake Institute for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship Fellows Program and Spark Business Incubator, which provide students with hands-on experience with local entrepreneurs in all stages of the business cycle. These resources enable students to become familiar with business and financial services tools, reinforcing classroom theory, while professors use them to further their research.

“We complete a thorough review of the programs in question before giving the awards,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “We are looking for such qualities as accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services and successful outcomes for students. It’s wonderful to see how Alvernia University really exemplifies these qualities within the field.”

Alvernia provides a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, with various concentrations available. The university also offers a minor in business, an Associate Degree of Science in Business, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). The programs are also accredited by the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
