Full Slate of Events Begins This Week

Alvernia University opens the academic year with a massive service day filled with community engagement in nearly every school throughout the Reading School District, as its historic Class of 2022, consisting of more than 500 new students, converges on the campus for the 2018-19 year.

 

A full slate of events and photo opportunities occurs throughout the week prior to the first day of class on Monday, August 27. Specific events and photo opportunities include:

 

Move-in Day—Thursday, August 23, 8a-12:30pm, Campus Quad

New students, with the help of many volunteer students, alumni, staff and faculty members, check-in to residence halls, their new home for the next year.

 

Class of 2022 Picture—Thursday, August 23, 1pm

Taken in front of the iconic Francis Hall, the historic class is officially photographed.

 

Opening Convocation—Thursday, August 23, 1:30pm, Physical Education Center

As the first, formal academic occasion for new students, this event celebrates the start of the college experience with some of the solemnity and grandeur of Commencement.

 

Orientation Day of Service— Friday, August 24, 8:30am-noon

“Building Our Community: Citizenship and Service”—During this massive service day, more than 600 Alvernia students along with faculty and staff strengthen relationships with the local community by conducting a series of service projects at nearly every school in the Reading School District and the Berks County Parks Department.

 

The university also debuts its new Golden Wolves bus that will transport students assigned to service projects at Reading High School, and university president Thomas F. Flynn is scheduled to join them at the high school at 9:30am.
