Alexander Kabrich
Sustainability Operations Coordinator
Alvernia University
Alexander Kabrich earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from Alvernia University in 2024 and centered his undergraduate work on field-based research and applied conservation science. Through Alvernia's undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities, he built hands-on skills in field sampling, research collaboration, and scientific communication.
In summer 2023, Alexander joined Alvernia Associate Professor of Biology Jamie Becker, Ph.D., on a research expedition to the Sucusari region of the Peruvian Amazon. Working with partner organizations and an international team, he helped pilot methods for capturing and sequencing environmental DNA (eDNA) from soil and water. This approach uses genetic traces left behind by organisms to strengthen biodiversity monitoring and support conservation fieldwork. The experience also included collaboration with the Maijuna community and exposure to traditional ecological knowledge that informs responsible, place-based research.
Alexander currently serves as Sustainability Operations Coordinator in Alvernia University's Office of Institutional Sustainability at the EcoHouse, supporting student sustainability initiatives and campus operations. His broader applied research interests include sustainability projects connected to hemp-based regenerative building materials and related lifecycle assessment efforts.
