The Associate of Science Degree in General Science aims to cultivate students’ understanding of the intellectual and philosophical foundations of scientific inquiry while emphasizing applied laboratory skills, data analysis, and scientific communication. The program develops basic laboratory techniques and safety practices, strengthens quantitative literacy, and provides a foundation in the natural sciences through applied coursework in chemistry, biology, statistics, and physical sciences. The program prepares students for the continued study of health and life sciences or entry-level laboratory support roles in clinical, environmental, or regulated laboratory settings. Alvernia University's Associate of Science in Healthcare Science degree teaches students how to advocate for individuals and communities that are underserved or underinformed on issues related to health and wellness, health-system policies and health management. The program is an excellent opportunity for students at all levels, including transfers with associate degrees as occupational therapy assistants, physical therapy assistants, medical imaging professionals, dental hygienists or respiratory therapists.
The Medical Imaging (MI) Program leading to an Associate in Science degree is a cooperative degree program between The Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences (RH-SHS) and Alvernia University. Admissions for the program is through the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences. In addition to the Associate in Science degree, graduates will receive a Certificate in Radiologic Technology from RH-SHS.
Students in the Healthcare Science Surgical Technology Track will receive a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Science from Alvernia University and a Certificate in Surgery Technology that allows professional licensure from the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences. Upon completion of the program, graduates are eligible to sit for the Surgical Technologist National Certification Exam from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting.
The RN to BSN Completion program is for registered nurses who have successfully completed their pre-licensure degree. It caters to graduates of diploma or associate degree nursing programs, whether new graduates just taking the NCLEX-RN examination or experienced RNs. The BSN is widely considered a requirement for RNs seeking broader professional responsibilities and career opportunities.
Students can complete the program in one year, or proceed at their own pace.
The Applied Health program leading to an Associate of Science degree is a dual enrolled degree program between The Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences and Alvernia University. In addition to the Associate of Science degree graduates will receive a Diploma in Nursing from RH-SHS. The RH-SHS Diploma in Nursing Program is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
The Applied Science program leading to an Associate of Science degree is a dual-enrolled program between the Joseph F. McCloskey School of Nursing and Alvernia University. In addition to the Associate of Science degree, graduates will receive a Diploma in Nursing from JFMSON. The JFMSON is nationally accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
