Alvernia University forms alliance with Independence Blue Cross to Expand Educational Opportunities
The new relationship creates flexible, affordable pathways for Independence Blue Cross associates to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees while advancing their careers
Alvernia University has joined with Independence Blue Cross (IBX) to expand educational opportunities for the company’s associates through the Independence Blue Cross University Partnership Deferral Program. The new relationship reflects Alvernia’s continued investment in serving employers and working professionals across the Greater Philadelphia Region. Eligible associates will have access to flexible undergraduate and graduate degree programs supported through IBX’s tuition benefit, making it easier to advance their education and careers.
Through the alliance, associates will be able to join bachelor’s degree programs in business administration and management, business, communication, leadership studies, accounting and data science, as well as master’s degree programs in business administration, health care administration, organizational leadership and data analytics. These expanded academic offerings provide flexible pathways for associates to strengthen their skills and advance their careers.
“At Alvernia, we believe higher education should meet learners where they are — in their careers, their communities and their lives,” said Alvernia University President Glynis A. Fitzgerald, Ph.D. “Our partnership with Independence Blue Cross reflects that commitment by creating flexible, career-focused pathways that help working professionals continue their education while advancing within one of our region’s leading employers. Together, Alvernia and IBX are investing in the long-term success of both employees and the communities they serve.”
The affiliation with IBX builds on Alvernia’s growing presence across the Greater Philadelphia Region and reflects the university’s commitment to serving employers with undergraduate and graduate programs designed for working professionals. By collaborating directly with regional organizations, Alvernia is expanding access to career-focused education that meets the evolving needs of employers and working professionals.
"Investing in our associates' growth is one of the many ways we support their long-term success at IBX," said Tony Toury, Independence Blue Cross vice president of Total Rewards, HR Information Systems, and HR Operations. "This new offering with Alvernia University expands access to quality educational opportunities that can help our associates develop new skills, advance their careers, and prepare for the future while also supporting the evolving needs of the communities we serve."
Through the program, IBX provides direct tuition payments to participating institutions for eligible associates pursuing designated undergraduate or graduate degrees, up to the annual maximum of $5,250. The benefit helps reduce out-of-pocket education costs while supporting associates’ professional development.
