Alvernia University Class of 2025

Over 500 students arrive on campus for fall semester

Over 500 new students arrived on the campus of Alvernia University on Thursday, many comprising the Alvernia University Class of 2025. This marks the second straight year Alvernia has eclipsed the 500 new students mark.

“As we continue to modernize our approach to higher education as a regional comprehensive university, we are happy to expand our mission by serving one of our largest incoming classes and a growing and more diverse student body,” said Alvernia University President John R. Loyack. “We look forward to the opening of Reading CollegeTowne as we expand our Reading campus onto Penn Street to enhance and expand our academic and student life experience for our students in Reading and at our community-based regional campuses.”

This incoming class totals over 500 new first-year and transfer students, with 69% from Pennsylvania and over 21% hailing from the greater mid-Atlantic region. A new focus on international recruitment has also brought students from Brazil, Canada, Ghana, Ireland and Saudi Arabia.

The academically strong class boasts an average GPA of 3.5 and SAT score of over 1080, with 10% of students serving as members of the National Honors Society.

The new students are not strangers to the university’s Franciscan-based community service model. Over 10% participated in student government, including 13 class officers, and over 25% documented community service and volunteerism, including fundraiser organizers.

Of the new class, 32% are students of color, 37% are scholar athletes, 21% identify as first-generation college students and 64% have elected to live on campus.

The class also welcomes a generation of firsts, including the university’s first womens wrestling and esports athletes and first engineering students.
