MSAT student Kelly Ryan '21 in athletic training classroom

Dean’s list student Kelly Ryan ’21 decided to attend Alvernia University to pursue a degree in Athletic Training because it gave her the opportunity to be challenged in a small learning environment.  She was thrilled with the program’s transition to a five-year Master of Science in Athletic Training and saw immediate career benefits.  “Being able to obtain my Master’s degree in five years provides me the ability to pursue a job right after graduation with the skills needed to have a wide variety of career options.”

Ryan appreciates the experiential learning opportunities in the program and values her clinical rotation with the University’s football team, where she logged over 250 hours, strengthening skills learned in the classroom. “This experience reinforced the importance of making connections and being someone that multiple people can rely on. I had a set schedule and was held accountable for many tasks that taught me the importance of reliability and professionalism.”

Ryan also reflects on the many opportunities to give back to the community throughout her college career and is committed to continuing her service efforts beyond graduation. “My plan is to continually learn, challenge myself and progress in my career at an Orthopedic clinic as a certified Athletic Trainer. I also intend to volunteer and give back to the community where I live and work.”
