Pi Lambda Theta
Pi Lambda Theta is the oldest and most selective educational honor society that recognizes excellence in education. The mission of PLT is to honor outstanding educators and inspire them to be effective leaders who address critical issues in education.
Membership in the society is by invitation only and is open to both undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue a career in education. At the undergraduate levels, students must have completed 48 credits, have a minimum 3.5 GPA, and be of sophomore standing. At the graduate level, students must have completed a minimum of two courses at Alvernia and have a minimum 3.5 GPA.
In March 2008, a total of 197 undergraduate students were invited to join through the Alvernia University Direct Honors program based on the above criteria. This invitation was accepted by 22 eligible students. National membership dues are $42.00 annually. Current Alvernia membership in the organization since August 2005 is 176 educators.
