2025 Hispanic Heritage Month

 

Alvernia University's Office of Justice, Equity and Inclusion (JEI) invites the Alvernia community to attend the following events on campus and locally during Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15: 

 

Que Rico Latin Dance Company Taco Tuesdays ($25)

  • Date: Every Tuesday
  • Time: 6:30 pm
  • Location: 500 Penn St., Reading, Second Floor
  • Description: A fiesta from your taste buds to your toes. Learn salsa and bachata dance technique and enjoy tacos. Learn more here.

 

Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff (Pura Vida Club)

  • Date: Monday, September 15
  • Time: 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
  • Location: Campus Commons Living Room
  • Description: Celebrate the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month. This event will include Latin food, games, music, and dancing.
  • The Registered Student Organization Pura Vida's mission is to help the Alvernia community understand the political, educational, and social issues that affect the Latine/Hispanic community by recognizing and supporting Latine/Hispanic students at Alvernia University.

 

Alvernia Dance Company Flamenco Class

  • Date: Thursday, September 18
  • Time: 6:30 p.m. 7:30 p.m.
  • Location: Campus Commons Dance Studio
  • Description: Learn the Technique and culture behind the beautiful Flamenco style. You will learn from Amanda Peña, a Berks County native who performs with an internationally renowned Flamenco company. Character shoes are recommended, but not required. The Alvernia Dance Company provides an opportunity for students who love dance to pursue their interest in an accepting, flexible and positive environment. The registered student organization is open to dancers of all levels of capability in all styles of dance.

 

Reading Public Museum Hispanic Heritage Month Community Celebration

Berks Cultural Diversity Festival

  • Date: Saturday, September 27
  • Time: 12:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m.
  • Location: City Park, 1044 Washington St, Reading
  • Description: The Berks Cultural Diversity Festival is a free, annual, family-friendly event hosted by Bring The Change to celebrate the richness of cultural traditions in Berks County and beyond. The festival is a space where music, food, dance, and community come together to foster understanding, appreciation, and unity among people of all backgrounds. Learn more here.

 

Lotería (Pura Vida Club)

  • Date: Wednesday, October 1
  • Time: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
  • Location: Quad
  • Description: Play Lotería, a Mexican card game similar to BINGO, and earn free prizes.

 

Greater Reading Immigration Project presents The Crossing: Stories of Migration through Film and Art ($10)

  • Date: Tuesday, October 9

  • Description: The Art and Book Gallery opens at 4:30 pm, items will be available for purchase.
