International Education Week 2023
Alvernia University is celebrating the 2023 Annual International Education Week from Nov. 13-17, featuring opportunities for students, faculty and staff to be immersed in the different cultures that curate the Alvernia community through food, sports, dance, meaningful dialogue and more. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to join for all events including:

 

Monday, Nov. 13
  • Mariachi Band – 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. | Student Center Cafeteria

Tuesday, Nov. 14
  • International Student Home Country Displays – 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. | Student Center Cafeteria
    • Travel the world without leaving campus! Don't miss this event where you can experience the richness of global cultures through captivating exhibits and engaging presentations by our international students.
  • African Gospel Singers – 12 – 1 p.m. | Student Center 
  • DNA Discussion Project – 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 p.m. | Locations vary.
    • Uncover the secrets of your DNA and learn how we are all connected. Guest Presenters from West Chester University will share insights into their DNA Discussion Project that they have worked on for over 20 years. During this session, we will be breaking into small groups after the main presentation to unpack and discuss our individual DNA findings. Those who have participated in taking the Ancestry DNA Test, should attend one of the sessions.

    • Be a part of history and join in the first-ever drone shot that will be taken from above! 196 students will form the letters "AU" holding flags from 196 countries above their head.

  • Novelty: Henna Painting – 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. | Student Center 
  • The Ukrainian War: A one-year retrospective – 12:15 – 1:15 p.m. | Campus Commons Living Room

    • The Peace Corps Table Display & Discussion event features visual displays and discussions with volunteers, offering an informative and engaging glimpse into the Peace Corps' global mission
  • Birds of Prey Experience – 12:15 p.m. | Student Center Seminar Room 2nd Floor
    • Learn about raptors and their international migration. Three birds of prey will be with us from the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.

Friday Nov 17

  • World Peace Moment of Silence, Prayer and Goodwill – 11:00 a.m. | Judge Prayer Garden
    • Bad Weather Location: PEC 
  • South & Central American Food & Music – Campus Commons Living Room 11:30 – 1pm.
    • Indulge in the vibrant flavors of South and Central American cuisine while enjoying the captivating rhythms of their music in a cultural feast for your senses.
