The statement below is in response to Supreme Court Ruling Against Affirmative Action on June 29, 2023:

Although it seemed a foregone conclusion, our Alvernia University community was disappointed with the Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling on the use of race as a factor among the considerations for college admission. Through this decision, the Court failed to acknowledge the impact systemic racism and historical oppression have had on populations of color in the United States.

Within the bounds of the law, Alvernia University will continue to live out our core values of collegiality, peacemaking, and service by offering degree pathways for people of color. We believe we are called to serve the underserved, and those who have historically been marginalized. We will not faint from this call, in fact, we will deepen our efforts to assist our students and our community as they work to make a living and make a life.
