Biography

Michael Durant is a full-time instructor at Alvernia University enriching the undergraduate artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science programs. Additionally, he was responsible for creating Alvernia’s online Master of Data Analytics and continues to teach and coordinate the program.

Michael contributes a unique multi-disciplinary perspective to the Math and Technology Department, holding degrees in both cybersecurity and data science and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in education. In addition to formal education, he holds numerous industry recognized certifications in both cybersecurity and data science including ISC2 Certified in Cybersecurity (CC), CompTIA TECH+, SAS Certified Specialist: Visual Business Analytics using SAS Viya, SAS Certified Specialist: Statistics for Machine Learning, SAS Certified Associate: Applied Statistics for Machine Learning, and SAS Certified Associate: Modeling using SAS Visual Statistics.

He also continues an active research agenda in topics such as critical infrastructure cybersecurity, information privacy law, machine learning, data analytics, and classroom gamification strategies. Michael is featured as an author in Intelligence Analysis: Foreign and Domestic Threats Confronting the Biden Administration where he utilized Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT) to analyze Russia’s strategic actions to undermine the United States across economic, diplomatic, information, and military domains. Further, he has spoken at numerous conferences including the ITLC Lilly Conference on AI and the Future of Evidence-Based Teaching in Higher Education, 10th Annual Health Care Institute Conference, and Philadelphia InfraGard.

In his spare time, he enjoys visiting National Park Service sites to discover the history and landscape of America.
