The Shirley and Joseph Boscov Scholars Program
The Shirley and Joseph Boscov Scholars program is the premier award for outstanding local high school graduates who plan to attend Alvernia University. These candidates thrive inside and outside of the classroom through academic performance, extracurricular activities and community involvement.
The scholarship has been established to help committed and dedicated students to pursue a quality, private, higher education right here in Berks County.
Eligibility Requirements
Boscov Scholars are first-year students matriculating full time at Alvernia who are residents of Berks County and recent high school graduates (within one calendar year). In addition, candidates should also possess the following qualities:
- Demonstrate a solid record of high school achievement to be exemplified by an outstanding cumulative GPA and test score*, strong leadership and community service.
- Complete the Boscov Scholarship Application - will be available starting Aug. 1, 2024.
*Test scores are optional for the 2025-26 academic year.
Award Amounts
- Final candidates will receive a $27,000 award renewable throughout their undergraduate studies at Alvernia. Students who are awarded the Boscov Scholars Award will receive this in place of any previously offered Merit Scholarship.
- Scholars will automatically be enrolled into the University Honors Program.
The scholarship is renewable as long as recipients maintain a 2.0 cumulative grade point average, continue to be a full-time student and engage in service to the university and the community. The Boscov Scholarship Committee will review and notify students within two weeks of application submission. The deadline for the application is Friday, Feb. 14, 2025.
