Real-World Experience Awards
Alvernia now offers Real-World Experience Awards to financially assist students for a variety of experiential opportunities, without reducing the amount of financial aid a student already has been awarded.
Launched in 2016, these competitive awards of up to $2,000 support student participation in:
- Study Away Experiences (such as a study abroad program or a domestic experience like The Washington Center)
- Non-domestic Service Learning or Alternative Breaks (to defray the extra costs of participation for a first-time participant)
- Credit-bearing Internships (to help with travel or living expenses when the internship is away from Alvernia or from a student’s home)
- Undergraduate research (for non SURF participants)
Applications will be evaluated on a variety of criteria, including academic performance, extra/co-curricular involvement at Alvernia, and the degrees to which the proposed experiences will add to a student's progress toward fulfilling our mutual mission to become: "Broadly educated, life-long learners; Reflective professionals and engaged citizens; And ethical leaders with moral courage."
Applications may be submitted throughout until October 31, 2017 and will be considered on a rolling basis. Students will have another opportunity to submit applications for Spring projects later in the Fall semester.
