Various student leadership opportunities are available during the upcoming 2026-2027 academic year. Alvernia Opportunities for Leadership features a single application for multiple positions and concludes with a group and individual interview process, known as AOL Interview Day.

Golden Guide Student Ambassador
- Description of Role
Alvernia’s Golden Guide Student Ambassadors are a vital part of the Admissions Team, representing the university with pride and professionalism. These student leaders play a key role in welcoming prospective students and their families, alumni, and faculty or staff candidates to campus. Golden Guides provide engaging campus tours, share their personal Alvernia experiences, and offer insight into both the academic and social aspects of university life. In addition to leading tours, Golden Guides assist in the Undergraduate Admissions Office by helping plan and coordinate campus events, connecting with families and alumni, and supporting various outreach efforts. They also participate in campus university events, foster student involvement, and serve as positive role models and liaisons across the Alvernia community. This position is a year-long commitment requiring 40 hours of work per semester. It’s designed for students who are enthusiastic about sharing their Alvernia experience and helping prospective and admitted students discover all that AU has to offer. Golden Guides are eligible to receive both work-study and scholarship compensation, provided they meet the hour requirements and remain in good standing with the University and the Undergraduate Admissions Office.
- Application and Interview Details
- We hire on a rolling, needs-based schedule, meaning positions may open at different times throughout the year. Students are eligible to apply as early as their first semester at Alvernia University. The application process includes submitting an online application and résumé, followed by an in-person interview for selected candidates. Once an application is submitted, students will receive a confirmation email indicating whether their materials are under review or if they have been placed on a waitlist until positions become available.

Orientation Weekend Leader (OWL)
- Description of Role
The Orientation Weekend Leader Team works to welcome our incoming students during New Student Orientation Weekend. Assisting with move-in, followed by leading small groups of incoming students through orientation events. This is a week-long commitment that is high-energy and an exciting way to start your student leader journey.
- Application and Interview Details
- Head OWL Application will open on October 15, 2025, and will close on November 14, 2025. Interviews will take place in the last two weeks of November.
- Returning and New Hire OWL Application will open on December 8, 2025, and will close on February 5, 2026. Interviews will take place in the last three weeks of February.
SEARCH Seminar Peer Mentor (PM)
- Description of Role
Every SEARCH Seminar is assigned a peer mentor, an upper-division student who acts as a guide and resource for students as they adjust to college life and academic expectations. Each mentor establishes his or her unique relationship with students in their section, but all students can expect peer mentors to model successful time management techniques, help them learn how to find and use information about student support services and guide them toward informed decision-making. This is a semester-long commitment.

Resident Assistant
- Description of Role
Resident Assistants are members of the Residence Life staff selected on the basis of leadership, character, and the ability to relate well with others. Reporting to Residence Life professional staff members, Resident Assistants are responsible for the supervision and community development of a residence hall area. Resident Assistants are expected to be mature individuals who exert a positive influence on the members of their community. They are also expected to be concerned, responsible individuals who are enthusiastic and have a positive outlook towards Alvernia University. Resident Assistants develop and enhance many transferable skills frequently sought by employers. Those skills include organizational and time management, communication, decision-making, leadership, conflict management, diversity awareness, and crisis intervention. Resident Assistants also develop self-confidence, establish social networks, and realize that they can make a difference in the lives of many Alvernia students and community members.

- For all new applicants, candidates will be invited to two interviews with members of the professional and paraprofessional Residence Life staff.
Peer Tutors
- Description of Role
Peer Tutors support fellow students by explaining course content and advanced study strategies that help them excel academically. Tutors may also offer writing assistance, lead study groups or exam review sessions, and share academic resources. By tutoring, they deepen their own understanding of core subjects and improve their communication skills. Peer Tutors benefit from at least 10 hours of training to earn CRLA Level 1 Certification. This is an academic year-long commitment.

International Student Ambassadors
- Description of Role
Alvernia’s International Student Ambassadors are part of the International Student Engagement and Admissions Team. These student-leaders are dedicated in assisting new students with their transition to life in the US and Alvernia during International Student Orientation. They can also be found in the International Admission Office reaching out to prospective students.
