University establishes scholarship and tuition discount to aid students and families

Alvernia University announces the addition of the Alvernia-Cabrini Completion Scholarship and a 20% discount for selected graduate programs for Cabrini students and their families affected by the university’s recent announcement of closure following the conclusion of the 2023-24 academic year.

“Higher education faces immense challenges with a changing landscape, and we are saddened to learn the news of the impending closure of Cabrini University,” said Alvernia University President-Elect Glynis A. Fitzgerald, Ph.D. “As an institution guided by Franciscan core values and our foundresses, similar to those of Cabrini’s foundresses, we have established pathways to provide a soft landing for students affected by this news.”

The Alvernia-Cabrini Completion Scholarship for undergraduate students provides $24,000 in financial aid to help reduce the financial burden for Cabrini students making their transfer decisions. In addition, Alvernia will offer a 20% discount for Cabrini graduate students transferring to most Alvernia graduate programs.

“After nearly 17 years as a faculty member at Cabrini, I’m deeply saddened to hear of the impending closure as I have a deep love for the university and the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus,” said Alvernia Vice President for Mission Diversity and Inclusion Darryl C. Mace, Ph.D., who joined Alvernia in 2021. “Cabrini students and their loved ones have some tough decisions to make in the days and weeks ahead, and I’m grateful Alvernia has organized pathways for students to land on their feet on our campus and in our caring community.”

Cabrini students in good standing will be granted an expedited admissions process and generous credit transfer to Alvernia University. With a waived application fee, and dedicated advisors for both undergraduate and graduate students, students can live on-campus and move in, beginning classes as soon as August.

“Departments from across campus have organized to help with a robust transition plan,” said Senior Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs Mary-Alice Ozechoski. “With planned visit days, virtual information sessions, and housing and roommate matches, Cabrini students looking for a familiar home will find one at Alvernia.”

The university has organized virtual transfer sessions to answer questions for Cabrini students.
