Alvernia Opportunities for Leadership

 

 

Various student leadership opportunities are available during the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year. You may apply for multiple positions on a single application and leverage the same references.  Group Process Day, which consists of individual interviews and group activities, is mandatory and will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2018.  Attendance at Group Process Day is mandatory, any questions should be addressed to student.activities@alvernia.edu.

Everyone should do a resume, creative expression, and supply 2 names and contact information for recommendations.  We plan to notify students about selection the Friday before spring break, March 2, 2018.

Information sessions will be held to answer any questions you may have about the leadership positions.

Admissions

Tour Guides: Campus Tours to prospective students and help with all Admissions events (Open House, Accepted Students Day, Scholarship Luncheon, Info Sessions).



Shadow Host: Have perspective students shadow your classes.

Overnight Host: Have a prospective student shadow your classes as well as spend the night in your Residence Hall

Alumni/Institutional Advancement

Student Ambassadors: The Alvernia University Student Ambassadors Program was founded to educate prospective students and their parents about Alvernia University, from both the academic and social perspectives. In addition, the Student Ambassadors actively participate in campus events, generate student involvement, and serve as a network for other activities and organizations on campus.
Student Ambassadors are seen as a select group of elite students on Alvernia’s campus and throughout the community. Ambassadors are given many professional development opportunities throughout the year and should take advantage of as many as possible.

Campus Ministry

Alternative Break Site Leader (ABSL): Serve as liaison with Campus Ministry staff and other student trip attendees by facilitating reflection and helping to put academic learning into practice so as to stand in solidarity with the oppressed. Meet with Campus Ministry staff and other Alternative Break site leaders regularly for support, especially with outreach and fundraising efforts.



Campus Ministry Leadership Team (CMLT): Serve as an ambassador responsible for bringing a student perspective to current and future program planning and outreach. Meet once a month as a team. Attend annual retreat. Each team member will help to organize at least one Campus Ministry program a year.

Academic Success Center

First Year Seminar Peer Mentor (PM): Every First Year Seminar is assigned a peer mentor, an upper-division student who acts as a guide and resource for students as they adjust to college life and academic expectations. Each mentor establishes his or her unique relationship with students in their section, but all students can expect peer mentors to model successful time management techniques, help them learn how to find and use information about student support services, and guide them toward informed decision making. Please attend one of the information sessions to find out the expectations and qualifications needed to be a Peer Mentor.

Residence Life

Resident Assistant (RA): Resident Assistants are members of the Residence Life staff selected on the basis of leadership, character, and the ability to relate well with others. Reporting to the Resident Hall Directors, Resident Assistants are responsible for the supervision and community development of a residence hall area. Resident Assistants are expected to be mature individuals who exert a positive influence on the members of their community. They are also expected to be concerned, responsible individuals who are enthusiastic and have a positive outlook towards Alvernia University. Resident Assistants live in an assigned residence hall and plan program events for their residents to attend. RAs are required to serve on duty and walk through the halls to enforce policies and respond to crisis situations when they arise.



Community Facilitator (CF): Community Facilitators are members of the Residence Life staff selected on the basis of leadership, character, and the ability to relate well with others. Reporting to the Resident Directors, Community Facilitators are responsible for working with Senior Resident Assistants and Resident Assistants to develop their assigned Living Learning Community in their assigned area. Community Facilitators are expected to be mature individuals who exert a positive influence on the members of their community. They are also expected to be concerned, responsible individuals who are enthusiastic and have a positive outlook towards Alvernia University. Community Facilitators will meet with an assigned faculty/staff liaison to their community to help plan programs related to the community’s theme.

Student Activities/New Student Orientation

Orientation Weekend Leader (OWL): Assist in making our new students feel welcome during New Student Orientation (NSO). Answer any questions our new students or their families might have, or direct the new student to the appropriate person to answer the question. OWLs lead student groups and activities. OWLs must attend training prior to NSO, and must participate in all activities relating to NSO, including Check-In and Move-In.



Orientation Assistant (OA): Assist in making our new students feel welcome during New Student Orientation (NSO). Answer any questions our new students or their families might have, or direct the new student to the appropriate person to answer the question. OAs help plan and set-up activities and events behind the scenes. OAs must attend training prior to NSO, and must participate in all activities relating to NSO, including Check-In and Move-In.
