I have joined an Alternative Break trip in each of the last three years. My only question is why I waited so long to become a part of this activity! Spending a week, 24/7, with a group of students provides a relationship with students unlike any other. I am still deeply connected with all of the students from all of the trips.
The best part is that, as the faculty “advisor,” I am not in charge. These trips are entirely student-led, and the students lead me too. Working side by side with the students on the service projects is more fun than I can even describe.
What is most precious to me is how we all take care of each other. I have received love and caring in waves. I will return every year they’ll have me.
