The areas of mathematics which are of special interest to Professor Gieringer are the History of Mathematics, Abstract Algebra, and Calculus instruction. Outside interests include hiking and world traveling. He has recently coauthored a text in Calculus instruction titled "First Semester Calculus for Students of Mathematics and Related Disciplines".
