Alvernia University’s seventh President will have the opportunity to build upon the transformational tenure of Dr. Thomas F. Flynn. S/he will lead this financially stable and ambitious University to its next level of success through a continued commitment to: student-centered success, external engagement, academic rigor, financial discipline and the passionate articulation of its Franciscan mission and values.
The President of Alvernia University is the chief executive officer of the University, reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. Reporting directly to the President are the Provost, the Vice President for Enrollment Management and University Life, the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Vice President for Marketing and Communications and the Assistant to the President for Mission, Integration and Education.
There is optimism at the institution and in the community about Alvernia University’s future. Past presidential leadership and devotion to the core values that shape the identity of the institution have positioned the University to successfully respond to the considerable challenges facing higher education.
Alvernia’s seventh president will need to build upon the University’s growth and success while navigating the complicated trade-offs that will be required to ensure a bright future. S/he will find many opportunities to build upon existing positive momentum by bringing enthusiastic, entrepreneurial and visionary servant leadership to the position, especially in the areas of fundraising and external relations, alumni engagement, enrollment and retention and academic programs.
Alvernia University has a tradition of excellence in the areas of mission-driven education, community engagement, integration of liberal arts and professional education, academic rigor, and adaptation to the challenges facing the University and higher education. The new president will find ample opportunities to further elevate Alvernia’s reputation in each of these areas and will be expected to maintain and enhance Alvernia’s competitive advantage in these areas.
The University enjoys a record of successful disciplined fiscal management and stewardship, collegial relations between faculty and administration and collaborative leadership characterized by honest and open communication. In addition, the President’s positive relationships with the Board of Trustees and the Bernardine Sisters have been central to the success of the institution. The new president will be responsible for continuing these practices.
