The following scholarships are awarded to qualified first-year applicants:
- Shirley and Joseph Boscov Scholars Program
Awarding a $25,000 scholarship annually, the Shirley and Joseph Boscov Scholars program is the premier award for outstanding Berks County high school graduates who thrive in the classroom and outside it, through volunteer and community involvement. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, a minimum SAT score 1100, strong leadership skills, and a record of community service involvement. To learn more, click the link above.
- Presidential Scholarship
This is an $22,000 award for qualified recipients.
- Trustees' Scholarship
A $21,000 award for qualified recipients.
- Veronica Founder's Scholarship
Awards $20,000 to qualified recipients.

Earn Micro-scholarships to Alvernia University during high school or your first two-years of community college!!
We partnered with RaiseMe to offer micro-scholarships that recognize your everyday achievements and allow you to start earning scholarships to Alvernia before you even apply. Future high school applicants can earn up to $17,000 per year, and transfer students up to $13,000 a year - which will be part of your Alvernia University scholarship or financial aid award. You may receive even more in your scholarship or financial aid once we review your application, but the money you earn from Alvernia University on RaiseMe is the guaranteed minimum amount you will receive from Alvernia University.

To get started, create an account at www.raise.me/join/Alvernia. Once the account is established, be sure to follow Alvernia University and add achievements to your portfolio. Get an A, add it to your portfolio. Maintain a high GPA, add it to your portfolio. Visit Alvernia's campus, add it to your portfolio. You'll be earning scholarship money to help fund your college education.
The following are awarded to qualified first-year applicants based upon the student's high school. Partnership awards are given to students who enter Alvernia within one year of high school graduation. Students receiving merit scholarships (as listed above) are not eligible for Partnership Awards. Students are eligible for only one Partnership Award.
- Achievement Award
This $18,000 award is given to students who maintain a full-time undergraduate status and meet satisfactory academic progress guidelines. The award is granted annually, for a total of $72,000 over four years.
- Heritage Award
This $16,000 award is given to full-time day students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree who maintain satisfactory academic requirements. The award is granted annually, for a total of $64,000 over four years.
- Reading Collegiate Scholars Program
Select Reading High School students are offered comprehensive scholarship support, financial and otherwise, to assist in earning a Bachelor's Degree. Full details of the program and requirements should be reviewed here. To apply, please complete the required form.
- Allentown/Harrisburg Diocese Award
Full-time employees of the Allentown Diocese or Harrisburg Diocese and their dependent children will receive a $1,000 non-need based award. A letter from the principal or superintendent verifying employment must be sent to the Office of Student Financial Planning to receive this award. Students may be eligible for additional funding from Alvernia.
- ROTC Scholarship
Alvernia University is in collaboration with Lehigh University's ROTC program. Army ROTC scholarships are merit based and provide money for tuition, books and other expenses. Alvernia University provides free room and board for high school winners of three and four-year advance Tier I scholarship recipients.
- Catholic School Scholarship
This $1,000 award is offered to first-time, full-time freshmen graduating from a Catholic high school. It can be combined with other awards as well as incorporated into financial aid packages.
- Sibling Award
When two dependent siblings are enrolled full-time in the day academic division simultaneously, a tuition award of $1,000 will be given to each sibling. Students may be eligible for additional funding from Alvernia. Both siblings are required to meet satisfactory academic progress to be eligible.
- Tuition Exchange
Tuition exchange is available for students whose parents are employed by a higher education institution that participates in the Tuition Exchange Program. This discount covers up to 100% of tuition minus any federal, state, outside funding. Students are required to pay for all other expenses including but not limited to books, fees, room and board. Tuition exchange students attending the Alvernia are required to file a FAFSA. Contact the Human Resources Office for details.
Transfer Students (Non-International)
The following scholarships are given to qualified full-time undergraduate day students transferring from another institution of higher education who are working toward their first bachelor's degree:
This $16,000 scholarship is given to students who have earned at GPA of 3.5 or higher from all previous institutions.
This $14,000 scholarship is given to students who have earned a GPA between 3.25 and 3.49 from all previous institutions.
This $13,000 scholarship is given to students who have earned a GPA between 3.0 and 3.24 from all previous institutions.
This $11,000 scholarship is given to students who have earned a GPA between 2.0 and 2.99 from all previous institutions.
Reading Collegiate Scholars Transfer Program
This program awards full tuition to select qualifying transfer students from Reading Area Community College. Recipients must live in the city of Reading, have earned an Associate's Degree from RACC, maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and must be enrolled full-time in the day academic division. The application for this award must be submitted by deadline.
Partnering Alvernia & Community (PAC) Award*
This $4,000 scholarship is given to students who have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average from all previous institutions and transfer from one of our Community College partnership institutions.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship*
This $5,000 scholarship is awarded to students holding current membership in Phi Theta Kappa.
* Students receiving a Merit Scholarship are also eligible to receive the PAC and/or the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships. Admissions Counselors can assist in determining individual eligibility.
International Student Scholarship
Alvernia University offers scholarships to International Students based on academic performance. An annual $10,000 award is offered to successful international students taking day classes to earn an undergraduate degree. The award can be renewed if the freshman or transfer international student maintains a grade point average (gpa) of 2.5 or higher, and completes a minimum of 24 credits per academic year to maintain full-time enrollment status on Alvernia's main campus in Reading, Pennsylvania. For both freshman and transfer international students, the award will be renewable for four years (up to eight semesters).
International students can replace this scholarship with other awards, such as merit scholarships. Qualifying students will be notified if they qualify for a merit scholarship at the time of their acceptance to Alvernia University. The International Student Scholarship will become active when the student confirms full-time enrollment at the university.
Eligible students must have an F-1 or non-immigrant visa and meet the following admissions criteria:
- Enroll as a full-time undergraduate student each semester
- Complete coursework in a degree-granting program
- Attend classes at Alvernia's main campus
Please note that international students from an international partner institution, i.e. Beifang University of Nationalities in China, will not be eligible for this additional award.
