Agent of Change

As part of Alvernia’s first Master of Business Administration (MBA) cohort, Jonathan Encarnacion had quite an experience. Along with his classmates, the healthcare official and community advocate packed his bags and headed to Cuba for the program’s capstone project to interact first-hand with the Red Cross. “We gave out supplies and food to those in need,” explained Encarnacion. “Not only were we able to help those in need but we were able to enjoy the culture as well.“

The experience made a lasting impression on Encarnacion and has helped guide his impressive career path. Today, Encarnacion is an Administrative Director at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Health Plan, a nonprofit branch that helps medical assistance recipients. He is also involved in various groups in Berks County, addressing the needs of underserved populations.

"I always had a passion working with these groups,” he explains. “That puts into perspective what it means to have a meaningful career and being a part of one allows you to be an agent of change."
