Active Shooter
Alvernia University Public Safety, along with local and state police have adopted the FBI's accepted law enforcement response procedures to contain and terminate such threats as quickly as possible. The following guidelines taken from those sources will enable students, faculty, and staff to take appropriate actions for yourself and are intended for emerging or in progress situations. The bottom line is:
- Run – If you can get to a safe location, do so
- Hide – If you cannot get to a safe location, find somewhere to hide that you can lock and/or barricade yourself
- Fight – If you cannot get to a location to hide and your life is in danger, you may be forced to attempt to incapacitate the shooter.
