Research and Interest

I am heavily involved with the Bog Turtle Creek Farm project here at Alvernia.  Working alongside the Holleran Center for Community Engagement and student volunteers, we deliver fresh vegetables to the tables of many people in the city of Reading. Using my agricultural experience operating a small farm, I assist in the planning, planting and harvesting of the crops. I am excited, as are the others in the Holleran Center, to continue this garden project. We hope to provide opportunities for students to design and conduct biological research related to agriculture and sustainability gardening.

My past experience includes teaching at the Oley Valley high school for 37 years, and also as an instructor at Kutztown University. I teach Botany, Human Form & Function, Human Biology, and Anatomy/Physiology courses.  In my classes I strive to help students understand how to process information with study skill techniques that are "brain friendly". I want my students to understand and appreciate how fantastic the human body is and understand the biological world within it.
