Alvernia University’s Certificate Program in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion + Culture of Care and Belonging addresses a significant demand in the marketplace. A 2022 Society of Human Resource Management survey shows that 92% of workers polled said company culture played a major role in their desire to stay with their organization. Paulette Granberry Russell, president of the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education, notes “more and more employers are realizing that they need to be better about DEI if they want to succeed — and doing so requires specific skills.” Alvernia’s DEI+CCB Certificate Program is unique in that it helps new and existing DEIB professionals, and others in organizations, increase their knowledge and empower themselves to build a Culture of Care and Belonging in their workplaces.

Format

The program is delivered in three tiers totaling 10 hours with a mixture of both asynchronous and synchronous components.

  • Tier 1 (2 hours of asynchronous training) – Tier 1 focuses on basic knowledge, key terms and concepts around diversity in race(s), gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, language, education levels and credentials, (dis)ability, and age. Tier 1 includes a pre-test and post-test to assess knowledge gained over the course.
  • Tier 2 (4 hours of synchronous workshop(s)) – Tier 2 consists of synchronous advanced training (in-person or virtual based on client’s desire and availability of trainer) that would dive deeper into DEI work, i.e. unpacking bias, identifying microaggressions, deliberative dialogue, historical inequities, etc.
  • Tier 3 (4 hours of synchronous workshops) – Tier 3 includes two workshops (4 hours total) on creating a Culture of Care and Belonging. Tier 3 empowers participants to apply their Tiers 1 and 2 learning to their own organizations. Participants will identify organization-specific needs, opportunities, and strategies for cultivating cultures of care and belonging. These workshops are customizable but generally include a combination of review of best practices, strategic planning, addressing organizational cultures and dynamics, and assessing DEI+CCB impact.

Audience

The Certificate Program in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion + Culture of Care and Belonging will benefit aspiring and existing DEIB professionals, and others in organizations, by increasing their knowledge and empowering them to build a Culture of Care and Belonging (CCB) in their workplaces. Non-profit and for-profit organizations consistently express the need for professionals trained in diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB). According to the Society for Human Resource Management, the United States saw a 55% increase in DEIB roles in 2020.
