Alvernia University’s Banking Academy was created in response to the need expressed by the university’s corporate partners in the banking and financial service industry. The program is a two-part, two-year program that is designed to train and retain emerging leaders in banks, credit unions, and other financial services organizations. The first part of the program introduces participants to the broad array of operational and technical knowledge necessary to lead and manage various segments of a financial institution. The second part of the program builds on this knowledge through hands-on and case-based learning. Throughout the program participants will develop their interpersonal skills, work with an industry mentor, and engage in dialog about current events in this dynamic industry.
Format
The program is delivered in monthly, in-person meetings that last a half day and consist of learning modules that build knowledge and technical skill, improve “soft skills,” and dig into topics that are challenging the industry today. Between in-person meetings, participants will work with a mentor and engage each other through the university’s online learning management system.
Audience
The Banking Academy is meant for current employees of financial institutions that are identified by their employer as high potential contributors with significant growth potential. Each participant must be recommended by their employer, and employer must assign a senior level leader as a mentor to each participant. (Mentors will receive a mentor’s guide and orientation session from the university. While mentoring is an important part of this program, serving as a mentor flexible and can be done in just a few hours per month.)
