11/12/2009 - Alvernia opens new facility in Schuylkill County

In a time when many are cutting back, Alvernia University has invested in the Schuylkill County area, with a new 10,400 square foot facility in the Cressona Mall. A news conference and ribbon cutting was held Thursday, Nov.12, at 11 a.m., followed by tours of the facility.

Alvernia duo Spencer Stober, Ph.D., and Donna Yarri Ph.D., discussed their new book, God, Science, and Designer Genes: An Exploration of Emerging Technologies as part of the 2009 Literary Festival—Life Between the Pages—to a packed crowd today.

10/16/2009 - Alvernia honors Paul Roedel, Berks Women in Crisis, and Mary's Home/Mary's Shelter

Alvernia University hosted its annual President’s Dinner, Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7:00 p.m., to honor organizations and individuals who have made a significant impact on Alvernia and its surrounding community. This year’s recipients were Paul R. Roedel (Franciscan Award), Berks Women in Crisis (Pro Urbe Award), and Mary’s Home/Mary’s Shelter (Pro Urbe Award).

Alvernia's MBA Executive Leadership class submits timely emergency services report to the PA Emergency Health Services Council.

9/29/2009 - Alvernia Hosts Alcohol Awareness Week

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the consequences of excessive and underage drinking affect virtually all college campuses, college communities, and college students, whether they choose to drink or not. This week at Alvernia, students and staff did something about it.

9/14/2009 - First Annual Founders Day Lecture

The First Annual Founders Day Lecture will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 4:00 p.m.

8/24/2009 - Class of 2013 welcomed to campus

The first incoming class of Alvernia University was welcomed to their new home by seasoned faculty, staff, and fellow students this weekend. More than 330 new freshman and 122 new transfer students spent the weekend meeting professors, finding classrooms, and learning their way around campus this weekend.

8/4/2009 - Alvernia University expands to Sunbury

Alvernia University is set to bring two popular degree completion programs to Sunbury, Pa. Classes will begin this fall. An Open House is scheduled for Thursday, August 6.

  • History: Established as a private four-year liberal arts college in 1958, Alvernia celebrated its 50th year by being awarded university status in 2008.
