Admission to the Program
Alvernia University automatically enrolls qualified freshmen directly into the Honors Program. Incoming freshmen who receive either the Presidential or Trustees' scholarship and have a 3.5 GPA or an 1130 SAT score will be enrolled in the Program.
Students who do not meet the automatic admissions criteria, but who show academic promise may apply to the Program prior to their freshmen year. Students will be enrolled upon the discretion of the Director.
Students are able to join the program after their first semester (or upon transferring to the university) with a collegiate GPA of 3.5, the recommendation of a professor, and/or permission from the Director. Students wishing to join the program after their first semester must submit a letter of intent to the Director of the Program.
Letter of Intent
The Honors Program seeks individuals with a passion for learning new things, a willingness to achieve excellence, and a sense of excitement about college and their future. In order to assess your interest, please address the following questions in your letter of intent:
- Why would you like to be in the Honors Program?
- What talents or skills would you bring to the Program that are important or unique?
- Which is more important to you—good grades or enhanced understanding of a subject? Why?
- What is your dream job? How will your undergraduate education help you get there?
