Colleges of Distinction awards honor for high-impact practices

Alvernia University earns the 2020-2021 Business Field of Study badge from Colleges of Distinction for 2020-21.

“National recognition like this helps emphasize our student-centric and modernized approach to business education,” said Alvernia University President John R. Loyack. “With the expansion of the university through the Reading CollegeTowne initiative and student business incubator, current and future Alvernia business students will have an abundance of new entrepreneurial and experiential learning opportunities.

Through a comprehensive vetting process, COD recognizes business programs that exhibit high-impact practices and criteria based on stability, multidisciplinary, practical experience, collaborative learning, business ethics, dedicated advising and counseling and industry connections.

“We complete a thorough review of the programs before granting the honors,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “We’re looking for qualities such as accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services, and successful outcomes for students. It’s wonderful to see how Alvernia really exemplifies these qualities.”

Alvernia’s business programs strive to put students at the forefront and prepare them to excel in the workforce of the future. Business education at Alvernia provides the foundations for careers in accounting, financing, marketing, human resources, and specialized areas of management through the combination of classroom and experiential learning.

"Receiving this award is a testament to the high-quality standards of our business programs," said Glynis Fitzgerald, senior vice president and provost. "Alvernia’s combination of academic excellence in multiple business tracks, commitment to a foundation in the liberal arts, devoted and passionate faculty and a world-class ethics curriculum, has led to shaping generations of ethically and morally strong business leaders and reflective professionals.”

In July, Alvernia had a trio of badges bestowed upon it from COD, including being named a 2020-21 national, Catholic and Pennsylvania college of distinction.
