Coronavirus (COVID-19)

On May 11, 2023, the Centers for Disease Control marked the end of the federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency declaration. To continue to help the university community stay safe and healthy, the Alvernia University Pandemic Response Team has put together a list of helpful FAQs.

What are the updated isolation and exposure guidelines?

Alvernia University asks that all community members continue to follow CDC guidelines for isolation (testing positive for COVID-19) and exposure (being exposed to someone with COVID-19).

  • Isolation: If you test positive for COVID-19, you will be required to isolate, ideally at home, for a minimum of five days and wear a mask around others for an additional five days. If you are unable to isolate at home, you will be expected to isolate in place in your residence hall with the permission of your roommates. This is similar to how the university has handled students sick with the flu. Students who test positive for COVID-19 should contact the Medical & Counseling Center at 610.568.1467. Employees who test positive for COVID-19 should contact their supervisor and human resources.
  • Exposure: If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19, you will need to take precautions (wear a high-quality mask when you are around others inside your home or indoors in public, avoid people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19 and watch for symptoms) for 10 full days. Those exposed should get tested at least five full days after your last exposure.
What is the university masking policy?

Alvernia is a mask-friendly campus. Masks are optional in indoor locations on campus, including on-campus shuttles. Students are only required to wear masks in the Medical and Counseling Center when sick. Some campus locations and some classes may require masking, and signs will be posted as needed. Individuals are expected to adhere to masking in posted areas and to have masks (medical/surgical masks are preferred).
