The Distinguished Alumni Award

The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to an alumna/alumnus of Leadership Berks in recognition for distinguished volunteer service and support of Leadership Berks programs and the community. The award recipient’s personal and professional accomplishments exemplify excellence in leadership, exceptional community leadership, and extraordinary commitment to community engagement and service.

Distinguished Alumnus: Maria Radwanski, '98

Maria is Co-owner, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer of Health Calls Home Health Agency a Medicare certified home health agency that provides skilled nursing and rehabilitation services, and specialty services including orthopedic rehabilitation, general rehab, wound care, and congestive heart failure disease management and rehabilitation. She is responsible for operations management, administration, and direction for Health Calls' professional, clinical, and clerical services in accordance with established policies, program objectives, and state and federal standards.

Prior to owning her own business, among others Maria held healthcare positions with area organizations including Program Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist at Reading Rehabilitation Hospital. Maria earned her MSN with concentration in Rehabilitation Nursing from Thomas Jefferson University, Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from DeSales University. She is a certified Rehabilitation Nurse and a member of the Sigma Alpha Omega Sorority, having served as Class Secretary from 1979-1983 and a 1979 Graduate of Holy Name High School.

A proud graduate of the Leadership Berks Class of 1998, Maria has served Reading and Berks County and her profession in several capacities. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Rehabilitation and is an Author and Contributor to Home Health Nursing Scope and Standards for the American Nurses Association having authored and co-authored chapters on Gerontological Rehabilitation Nursing Health Maintenance and Management of Therapeutic Regimens; Self-Medication Practices to Manage Chronic Pain After Spinal Cord Injury; and Evaluating Nursing Care Practice at Four Rehabilitation Hospitals.

Maria currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Mary's Shelter. Maria is actively engaged with Leadership Berks currently serving as a member of the Leadership Berks Steering Committee and Project Liaison for the Leadership Berks Engagement Plan and she has been an active member of the Leadership Berks Alumni Council having served as the Chair of the Community Serve and Learn Committee for several years.
