Megan King
 

MEGAN KING
Academic Learning Specialist
Megan is the Academic Learning Specialist for Alvernia University’s Academic Success Center.  She is an Alumnus of Alvernia University’s M.Ed. program.  Megan has implemented Supplemental Instruction programs for A&P, Chemistry and Math 101.  She is also an FYS instructor, COM 310 co-instructor, and was part founder of the Berks Writing & Learning Center Leaders Consortium.  She also restored CRLA certification for the Academic Success Center.

Jami Gresh


JAMI GRESH
Graduate Assistant Tutor; Writing
Jami has been with the Academic Success Center since August 2016. Jami began in the ASC as an undergraduate pursuing degrees in English and Communications. Now, pursuing a master’s degree in Leadership for Sustainable Communities, Jami works as a Graduate Assistant in the Academic Success Center. Jami loves helping all students with all writing assignments, but she really enjoys helping students brainstorm for their fiction writing projects. Outside of the ASC, Jami spends her time reading, writing, learning, and hanging with her little dog, Preston. 

 
Jenn Toledo
 

JENN TOLEDO
Graduate Assistant Tutor
Jenn is a Graduate Assistant at the Academic Success Center.  Jenn graduated with her BA in Early Childhood Education PreK-4 with minors in Spanish and Psychology.  She is working on her Masters of Education with an ESL certification. She has experience in tutoring Spanish and Education courses.  She is involved in school wide service days and enjoys dancing.  Jenn plays volleyball in the winter and softball in the summer, both in Reading.   Jenn is a second-grade teacher in the Reading School District and is a Girls on the Run coach.  Jenn’s favorite professor is Sister Margaret Ann Dougherty because she has great connections between the book and real world scenarios.  Jenn enjoyed Dr. Tietbohl’s Human Development class the most so far.

Makayla Boyle

Tutor; Biochemistry 
Makayla has been tutoring at the Academic Success Center since August 2015.  Makayla is working toward her Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.  She has experience in tutoring General Chemistry, Principles of Biology, and Human Form and Function. Makayla is also involved in the Science Association and was part of the S.U.R.F. Research Program in the summer of 2015 as a student researcher. She enjoys reading and spending time with her friends and family.  Makayla’s favorite professor is Dr. Kielbasa because of her supportive personality and how helpful she was during Makayla’s first research opportunity through S.U.R.F. Makayla has enjoyed Dr. Heinze’s Human Form and Function course the most so far.

 
 
Blair Burris

Blair Burris has been a tutor at Alvernia University Academic Success Center since fall 2015. Blair is working toward her degree in Nursing. She has many hours of experience tutoring anatomy & physiology, nursing math, and writing. During her time at the ASC, Blair has helped students create tools for citations in research. Blair is also involved in Alvernia Student Nurse’s Association. Blair enjoys reading, working out, and watching Netflix in her free time.

 
 
Josh Harmes
 

JOSH HARMES
Tutor; Occupational Therapy 
Josh began tutoring at the Writing & Learning Center in Fall 2015. Josh is working toward his Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree.  He has experience in tutoring A&P I & II, Kinesiology, Neuroscience, and writing as well as a number of general education courses and his OT courses.  During his time at the Academic Success Center, he looks forward to working with his peers and seeing them succeed. Josh is involved in Campus Activities Board (CAB), is the president of PTE, and is involved with SGA.  In addition to tutoring, Josh works at HealthSouth on the weekends and is a statistician in the Athletics department. He enjoys playing soccer and golf and watching the Philadelphia Flyers in his free time (or lack thereof). Josh’s favorite professor is Dr. Bindo because he wants to see his students succeed, pushes them to excel, and is always available to talk to if a student needs assistance or advice. Josh has enjoyed his Neuroscience, Kinesiology, and OT courses the most so far.

Alyssa Keifer has been a tutor at the Alvernia University Academic Success Center since August 2015.  Alyssa is working toward her degree in psychology.  She has just joined the staff and will be tutoring Statistics and writing.  Alyssa is also involved in Psychology Club and Lambda Sigma and enjoys running in her free time. Alyssa’s favorite professor is Dr. You because I have had the opportunity to bond with her the most so far and has enjoyed my intro to psychology course the most so far.

 
Morgan Kurtz

Head Tutor; Occupational Therapy
Morgan began tutoring at the Academic Success Center in Fall 2015. Morgan is working toward her degree in occupational therapy.  She tutors A&P I & II, neurology, kinesiology, and writing.  Morgan is involved in cheerleading, alternative breaks, and SOTA and enjoys reading in her free time.  Morgan’s favorite professor is Dr. Bertoti because her class material was challenging but she was always willing to help and has an uplifting attitude. Morgan has enjoyed Dr. Michalik's Music and Health course the most so far, even though it was not part of her OT curriculum but she really enjoyed learning something different!



Arielle Phillips

Tutor; Psychology 
Arielle began tutoring at the Academic Success Center in August 2015. Arielle is working toward her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Psychology. During her time at the Writing & Learning Center, Arielle plans to help students to better understand the writing process by improving their individual writing and revision skills, and to help the center grow to be a successful place where everyone is encouraged to ask questions. Arielle is also involved in Psychology Club, Hooked on Helping, and concert band. She enjoys watching movies in her free time.  Arielle’s favorite professor is Dr. You because her lectures are very clear which makes the topics easier to understand and has enjoyed Professor Thorne’s Intro to Statistics course the most so far.

Head Tutor; Accounting 
Jessica began tutoring at the Academic Success Center in Fall 2015.  Jessica is working toward her Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.  She tutors math and accounting courses.  Jessica is prepared to assist with the difficulties other students are having in their classes. Jessica is also involved with the Women’s Soccer team and enjoys reading in her free time.  Jessica’s favorite professor is Allison Althouse because she enjoys teaching what she loves and does so in a manner that everyone can understand. Jessica has enjoyed the Financial Accounting course the most so far.

Jenna began tutoring at the Academic Success Center in Fall 2015. She is a junior working towards her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.  Jenna is eager to help students succeed in A&P I & II, Neuroscience, Kinesiology, and Statistics. So far, Jenna’s favorite class has been Kinesiology with Dr. Bertoti. Jenna is a member of the women’s basketball team and is also involved in SOTA, CURE-sader, and SAAC.

Tutor; Occupational Therapy 
Kylie began tutoring at the Academic Success Center in Fall 2015.  She is a sophomore occupational therapy major. She will be tutoring introductory Spanish courses and writing. Kylie is from Muncy, PA and works at a nursing home in her hometown. In her free time, Kylie enjoys spending time with her roommates. Kylie is also involved in Alvernia’s cheerleading squad and Lambda Sigma. So far, Kylie has found her psychology courses to be the most interesting. 

 
Cami Beyer

Tutor; Occupational Therapy
Cami Beyer is working toward her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. During her time at the Academic Success Center, Cami intends to work with students to create new and creative study strategies and improve their metacognition and test taking skills. She is also involved in Chorus, Intervarsity, and the Women’s Book Club and enjoys reading and playing badminton in her free time. Cami’s favorite professor is Dr. Corey Harris because he challenges his students to support claims with sound reasoning, and has enjoyed Dr. Dolores Bertoti’s Kinesiology course the most so far.

 
Kristen Boyle

Tutor; Occupational Therapy
Kristen is working toward her degree in Occupational Therapy. She has experience tutoring various aspects of writing such as thesis development, research incorporation, and citation style due to her involvement in the writing mentor program at Alvernia. Kristen has been a writing mentor since Spring 2016. Therefore, she has also created various pedagogical materials for writing enhanced courses to assist students with writing. She is involved in the Student Occupational Therapy Association on campus and enjoys reading and spending time with friends in her free time. Kristen’s favorite professor is Dr. Dolores Bertoti because of her passion and dedication toward both her students and the courses she teaches. Kristen has enjoyed Dr. Bertoti’s Neuroscience course the most so far.

 
Patrick Brennan

Tutor; Accounting
Patrick is working toward his degree in Accounting and Sport Management. This is his first year working at the Academic Success Center and tutoring accounting. Patrick is also involved in Sport Managemet Association and enjoys reading in his free time. Patrick’s favorite professor is Professor Allison Althouse because of her ability to make accounting interesting and easy to understand. Patrick has enjoyed Dr. Beth Berret’s Management Principles course the most so far.

 
Sadie Shinn

Tutor; Healthcare Science
Sadie Shinn has been a tutor at the Alvernia University Academic Success Center since Fall 2017.  She is working toward her degree in Healthcare Science and applying for the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. She has previously been involved in Lambda Sigma Honor Society, Bog Turtle Creek Farm, Alvernia Campus Lion’s Club and various service activities through Alvernia. In her free time, she enjoys exploring the outdoors with her friends and family. Sadie’s favorite professor is Tom Bierowski because he invites students to look beyond the norm. She has enjoyed many classes at Alvernia, but particularly appreciated Foundations of Healthcare Science with Dr. Porrazzo and Special Topics: Back to Nature with Dr. Bierowski.

 
Alison Hyde
 

ALISON HYDE
Tutor; Occupational Therapy
Alison is working toward her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.  She is a new tutor for Anatomy & Physiology 1 and Psychology.  During her time at the Learning Center, Alison is able to assist students with their study habits and raise students’ confidence in their academic abilities.  Alison is also involved in the SOTA club (Student Occupational Therapy Association) as well as being a member of the Alvernia Women’s Soccer Team. She enjoys working out in her free time.  Alison’s favorite professor is Dr. Recktenwald because he is extremely helpful and entertaining, and has enjoyed Jennifer Michalik’s Music and Health course the most so far.

 
Lucy Horn

Lucy is working toward her degree in Occupational Therapy. She looks forward to tutoring Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Neuroscience, and writing.  During her time at the Academic Success Center, Lucy plans on helping students with their study skills, time management, and writing.  Lucy is also a peer mentor, is involved in the Student OT Association, and is President of the Commuter Council. She enjoys reading and writing in her free time. Lucy’s favorite professor is Dr. Bertoti because of her passion for what she does, willingness to help, and ability to appreciate God’s work in the human body. She has enjoyed Dr. Bertoti’s Neuroscience and Kinesiology courses the most so far.

Annie is working toward her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. She is a new tutor this Fall that can help to improve students study skills and overall help students to succeed.  Annie is involved in the Alvernia’s Women’s Soccer Team, SOTA, and APO. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, listening to music, and reading in her free time. Annie’s favorite professor is Dr. Dolores Bertoti because of the passion she has for her discipline and her ability to teach complicated concepts in an interesting and applicable manner.  Although Annie has found many of her courses at Alvernia fascinating, she has enjoyed both Dr. Bertoti’s Neuroscience and Kinesiology course the most so far.

 
Ashlin Young

Ashlin joined the team of tutors at the Alvernia University Academic Success Center in August of 2016.  Ashlin is working toward her degree in Nursing.  She has experience leading study groups in Anatomy and Microbiology, as well as helping her peers with time management skills.  Ashlin is also involved in the Alvernia Student Nurses’ Association as the Peer Mentor Coordinator and the Alvernia Love Your Melon Campus Crew as a crew member.  She enjoys hiking and reading in her free time.  Ashlin’s favorite professor is Professor Tracy Scheirer because of Prof. Scheirer’s love of nursing and her ability to teach challenging concepts in an engaging manner.  Ashlin has enjoyed Dr. Rothenberger’s Pharmacology course the most so far.

 
Kristen Sipling

This will be Kristen’s second year working in Alvernia’s Academic Success Center. Kristen is working toward her degree in English with a minor in Communications.  She has experience working with students to improve their writing skills, and during her time at the ASC, Kristen will assist students with their assignment to make it the best it can be. Kristen is also involved with the women’s volleyball team, is a CF for Rezlife, also works for AU’s Intramurals and enjoys reading and going to the gym in her free time.  Kristen’s favorite professor is Professor Kaufman because he encourages creative thinking in his classes, and she has enjoyed Dr. Law’s Shakespeare: Histories and Comedies course the most so far.

Rae-Anna is a junior Nursing major and is available to tutor Nursing courses. She has several years of tutoring experience at her previous institution and is excited to support nursing students here at Alvernia.

 
Amanda Riveira

Amanda is working towards her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Behavioral Health. She has experience in helping students strengthen their skills in Algebra, Statistics, Psychology, research, and helping students study for exams. Amanda is the Secretary for the Multicultural Club. In her free time, she enjoys going to the gym. Amanda’s favorite professor is Ramona Roberts because she uses stories from her past experiences to help the students learn the material in her Abnormal Psychology class. Abnormal Psychology has been Amanda’s favorite class so far. 


Sarah Rothenberger

Sarah Rothenberger is a new tutor as of the fall 2017 semester. She is working towards her degree in Occupational Therapy as well as a minor in Music. Sarah has a true passion for helping others, which she hopes to share with other students in the Anatomy, Psychology, Theology, and Writing areas. On campus, Sarah is involved in band, chorus, and the Alternative Break programs. She is also a certified Peer Educator, and the Vice President of Lambda Sigma Honor Society. In her free time, Sarah enjoys reading, spending time with friends, playing various instruments, and sitting in her Hammock. Her favorite professor is Dr. Vigna because he is passionate about what he teaches and encourages his students to think in new ways. 

 
Hannah Mallets

SI Mentor; Occupational Therapy
Hannah Mallets has been a member of the Supplemental Instruction Team at the Alvernia University ASC since the spring semester in 2015. Hannah is diligently working towards her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy degree. She looks forward to serving as a mentor for the Anatomy & Physiology I and II Supplemental Instruction Leaders and sharing her experiences. After multiple semesters as both a Supplemental Instruction Leader and Mentor, Hannah plans on helping the Supplemental Instruction leaders with their lesson plans, data analysis, and providing guidance based on previous experience with the position.  Along with being part of the Supplemental Instruction Team, Hannah also serves as a Peer Mentor, a Student Ambassador, and a Senior Resident Assistant. She enjoys playing soccer, reading, and watching movies. Hannah’s favorite professor is Dr. John M. Bindo because of his passion for treating patients with a client-centered and fun-loving approach. Hannah has enjoyed being a student and the Alvernia University experience over the past four years and is excited to get the most out of her final year.

Heather is a Supplemental Instruction Leader for Dr. Dougherty's Anatomy and Physiology class. She is a senior Healthcare Science/Doctor of Physical Therapy major. She is most excited about helping fellow students with such a challenging but fascinating subject. Her favorite professor is Dr. Porrazzo because of the dedication and compassion he shows his students. In her free time, Heather enjoys food (especially cheeseburgers), taking long naps, and spending time with her family and friends.

Haley Solan has been a Supplemental Instructor at Alvernia University since the Spring semester of 2017. Haley is in her Junior year at Alvernia where she is studying Occupational Therapy. Her other involvement on campus includes being the secretary of the Student Occupational Therapy Association, an Orientation Weekend Leader, a building representative for Residence Hall Association and a member of Campus Activities Board. Her favorite course was Kinesiology which was taught by her favorite professor as well, Doctor Bertoti. Haley is excited to assist students in Anatomy this year through fun activities that will challenge the students and help them reach their highest potential. She looks forward to connecting with the students and being a mentor they can look up to and rely on for help through their Freshman year of college!

Kallie Cardenas has been an SI instructor in the Alvernia University ASC since 2017. Kallie is studying Occupational Therapy with a minor in Spanish. She is looking forward to holding her SI sessions for the Anatomy & Physiology II course. Kallie is also a tour guide on campus, and she is involved in the Student Occupational Therapy Association and The Answer for Cancer Club. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family and dancing in her free time. Kallie’s favorite class so far has been Kinesiology with Dr. Bertoti. Dr. Bertoti is also her favorite professor because she is an amazing teacher and mentor. She also enjoys her Spanish classes with Professor Merolla.
