Becoming a Peer Mentor

A peer mentor is a student who, based on their own experiences and skills acquired through their participation in the program, can serve as a positive role model and provide encouragement and support to Freshman Foundation students. Upper-class students who have successfully completed the program and who continue to excel in their studies may serve as peer mentors. Only students who have completed the Freshman Foundations program are invited to apply.

Requirements

  • 3.0 and above cumulative GPA (grade point average)
  • Maintain good academic standing
  • Complete at least 24 credits
  • Interpersonal and leadership skills

Duties and Expectations

  • Attend all meetings of the First Year Seminar
  • Meet with students outside of class
  • Maintain contact with students
  • Meet with Program Director on a weekly basis
  • Notify Program Director of any issues or concerns with mentees
  • Uphold integrity of the program and confidential information regarding students
  • Assist director with spring workshops and other projects
