AlcoholEdu

Congratulations!  Your student is in college!

Alvernia College prides itself on our attention to students and their needs.  Our programming is designed to ensure that each student has the tools to be a successful student.  One of these tools is the required First Year Seminar- a course designed to introduce students to college life, prepare them for academic rigors, and provide resources for mature judgment.  One of the requirements of the First Year Seminar is a comprehensive online, alcohol prevention program called AlcoholEdu.  Used on over 500 campuses nationwide, the program uses science-based research to educate students about alcohol and its effects.  Whether your student drinks or not, AlcoholEdu for College will empower him/her to make well-informed decisions about alcohol and help students better cope with the drinking behavior of their peers.

The program has two sections, one that must be completed before First Year Orientation and the second part that must be completed in October.  Both of the sections must be completed to fulfill a First Year Seminar requirement but only Part 1 must be finished prior to First Year Orientation.

  • Part 1 of the course takes approximately 3 hours to complete, and we recommend that students take it in multiple sittings.  Students must earn a grade of 80 or higher to meet the requirements of your First Year Seminar course.  They are welcome to take Part 1 as often as necessary to score at least an 80.
  • In October, students will receive an email asking them to complete Part 2 along with a deadline for that completion.

The online course includes three surveys that measure students’ alcohol-related attitudes and behaviors.  All survey responses are strictly confidential; the school will only receive information about the student body as a whole and will never see individual student answers.

To take AlcoholEdu for College, students will need a computer with Internet access and audio capabilities.  If he/she do not have a fast internet connection at home [i.e., no cable or DSL modem connection], he/she should consider logging-on from a public site (e.g., local library, Kinko’s copy center, an Internet café, etc.).
If the student lives near Alvernia, the student is welcome to use designated library computers to complete this program.

All students receive information for logging to the AlcoholEdu program prior to their first semester at Alvernia College.  Should he/she experience any difficulties or require support, the AlcoholEdu Online Technical Support Center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Simply click go http://college.alcoholedu.com/login.aspx
and click on the “Technical Help” button located in the upper right-hand corner of every AlcoholEdu for College screen.
