International Leadership Conference Acceptances
READING, PA -- After a rigorous three-step review process, five Ph.D. students and six faculty and staff have been selected to present at the International Leadership Association's 16th annual global conference, “Conscious Leading for Global Change: Emergence of our Collective Realities.” The conference will be held October 30 – November 2, 2014 in San Diego, California.
Ph.D. Program Director, Dr. Tufan Tiglioglu, The O’Pake Institute for Ethics Leadership and Public Service Director, R. David Myers, and Ph.D. student, Sean J. Cullen, will present, “Who Community Leaders Admire (And Why It Matters).” Cullen will also participate in a roundtable discussion on Nature- Centered Leadership with Dr. Spencer S. Stober and Ph.D. student, Tracey L. Brown. Dr. Stober will also present “Developing Nature-centered Leaders” with program graduate and Sustainability Initiatives Coordinator for the Holleran Center for Community Engagement, Dr. Alicia Sprow. Ph.D. Candidate Sibel Ahi will present on “Quality Management in Higher Education,” Ph.D. Candidate E. Abby Wells will present “A Universal Model of Contemplative Leadership,” and Ph.D. student Brian Petersen will present "Antecedents to an Individual’s Openness toward Organizational Change." Dr. Tim Blessing will present “History in the Study of Leadership” and Professor Travis Berger will present “Leadership Development Across the World: Global Realities.”
This year includes a first for Alvernia, as Dr. Stober, Tracey L. Brown, and Sean J. Cullen’s book, Nature-Centered Leadership: An Aspirational Narrative, has been selected as a finalist for the Outstanding Leadership Book Award. The committee reviewed over 150 submissions and will be announcing the 2014 award at the ILA Opening Reception on Thursday, October 30.
Keynote speakers for the conference will include A.T. Ariyaratne, Leader and spiritual guide of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, Connie Matsui, Vice Chair of the San Diego Foundation, and Otto Scharmer, Senior Lecturer of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Vice Chair of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council on New Leadership Models.
