The Distinguished Alumni Award
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented to Leadership Berks program alumna/alumnus in recognition for distinguished volunteer service and support of Leadership Berks programs. The award recipient’s personal and professional accomplishments exemplify excellence in leadership at work, extraordinary commitment to community engagement, and service to others.
Distinguished Alumna: Scott L. Gruber, Class of 1991
Scott L. Gruber serves as president, Central Region and executive vice president of National Penn. Gruber is responsible for the growth and profitability of the bank’s delivery functions in Berks and western Montgomery counties, which make up National Penn’s Central Region. He is also responsible for overseeing National Penn’s community involvement in the Region.
Prior to being named Central Region president, Gruber was president of National Penn Leasing, led National Penn’s Manufacturing Group, SBA lending and had administrative oversight of the bank’s Berks and Montgomery regions. Gruber joined National Penn in 1997 as vice president and regional commercial lending manager of the bank’s Lehigh Valley Division. In 2002, he was named executive vice president. Gruber was previously employed by CoreStates and its predecessor Meridian Bancorp, Inc. for nine years as vice president of large corporate banking, corporate banking and middle market, and manager of dealer development.
Gruber earned a bachelors degree from The Pennsylvania State University and received an MBA from St. Joseph’s University. He is also a graduate from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
Gruber actively serves the community as a board member of the Kutztown University Foundation, the executive board and vice president of finance of the Boy Scouts of American Hawk Mountain Council, as a member of the steering committee of the Berks Economic Partnership, as a member of the Penn State Berks-Lehigh Valley College Advisory Board and the board of the Treatment Access Service Center. Gruber is also board chairman of the Manufacturers Resource Center, based in the Lehigh Valley. In addition, he serves on the Capital Campaign cabinets of the United Way of Berks County and Opportunity House and is a 1991 Leadership Berks Core Program graduate.
