The 2008 Encyclopedia of Education Law is an excellent resource for exploring the range of issues and court cases covered by education law. You will find a succinct summary outlining the scope of each issue and court case.  This encyclopedia is located in the Library Reference Collection.

    In addition to primary legal information consisting of case law, and state and federal statutes, this resource provides summaries and analysis of court decisions, law reviews, and synopsis of legal issues.

    Retrieving a Case by Citation

    Most cases have a unique identifying citation, typically consisting of the volume number, the abbreviated name of the print reporter and the page number on which the case is found.

    For example, to retrieve the case Bush v. Gore, 121 S. Ct. 525 (2000), type 121sct525 in the Find a Document by citation text box under Shortcuts on the Law tab, and click Go.

    Retrieving a Case by Title

    If you know the title of a case, you can retrieve it using the names of the parties listed in the title.

    For example, to retrieve Bush v. Gore, type bush and gore in the Find a Document by title text boxes under Shortcuts on the Law tab, and click Go.

    Retrieving a Statute or Regulation by Citation

    When you know the citation of a statute or regulation, type the citation in the Find a Document by citation text box under Shortcuts on the Law tab, and click Go.

    For example, to retrieve the statute 42 U.S.C.A. § 1983, type 42usca1983 in the text box.

    When you want to retrieve volume 65 of the Federal Register, page 81082, type 65fr81082.

    Use these databases to find articles about laws and statutes. If you want to find articles about a specific piece of legislation, search for the title of the legislation, such as the "Equal Educational Opportunities Act"
