Quotations
|
|
- For quotes that are four lines or less of prose and do not
require special emphasis, add double quotation marks and
keep the quote within the text of the paper.
- For the citation, include the author and page number.
According
to L. Gabriel, the astounding increase
in
resource consumption over the past four decades
is "stressing
our life support systems" (1).
- For quotes that are longer than four
lines, begin a new line and indent one
inch (two tabs) from the rest of the text.
Double spaces the quote and do not add
quotation marks. Do not indent the first
line of the quote.
Many
Pennsylvania colleges do not require a specific EE
course. Thomas Williams points out clearly out that:
If
education as a whole is a key element in the
process
for learning how to learn and learning
for
change, then the education of teachers is of
special importance...In
education for and about
the
environment, the training of teachers is a
crucial
factor. (34)

- For a quote that includes part or all of a single line of
verse
and does not require special emphasis, add quotation
marks and keep it within your text. If you use two or three
lines of verse, follow the same procedure, but use a slash
( / ) with a space on either side to separate the lines of
verse.
Michele
Watson describes the sentinel experience in her poem
titled "The
Sentinel": "I have watched you as you slept / You
have
never known" (35).
- For a quote that is more than three lines of verse, begin
the
quote on a new line, indenting each line of the verse one
inch (two tabs) from the left margin and double space
between lines. Do not add quotation marks unless
they appear in the original source.
Langston
Hughes' "I, Too" is very thought provoking:
I
am the darker brother.
They
send me to eat in the kitchen
When
company comes,
But
I laugh,
And
eat well,
And
grow strong. (15) |
