QUOTATIONS:

Short Quotations:
Quotations that are fewer than 40 words remain within the text of a paragraph and are enclosed by quotation marks.

Example:
The astounding increase in "resource consumption over the past four

decades is stressing our life support systems" (Gabriel, 1996, p. 34).

There is a global consensus that formal education programs can and will

influence the way citizens perceive and interact with their environments.

Long Quotations:
Quotations that are longer than 40 words are placed in a double-spaced block of typewritten lines with no quotation marks. Start typing it on a new line and indent the block 1/2" (5 spaces) from the left margin only.

Example:
Vooijs and Van der Voort (1993) identify several harmful effects of

television violence.

If people become inured to violence from seeing too much of it,

they may react less sensitively to real-life aggression by, for

example, not helping a victim. In addition, exposure to TV

violence can strengthen the belief that aggression is desirable

or acceptable to solve conflicts. (p.35)

Several studies have shown that greater viewing of violence is positively

associated with attitudes favorable to the use of violence (Dominick &

Greenberg, 1972; Greenberg, 1975).
