Distance Education Services

The collection of the Dr. Frank A. Franco Library Learning Center on the Alvernia University main campus in Reading is also available to you as a distance student. You may also request items not owned by Alvernia through the Interlibrary Loan service available through the library webpage. Our library staff understands the special needs of distance students and desires to serve your needs in the most effective and efficient way possible so each time you contact the library, please identify yourself as an Alvernia University distance education student.

In some cases, it may be easier for you to obtain materials through the Interlibrary Loan Service of your local public library. As an Alvernia Student, you also have borrowing privileges at any of the libraries in ACLCP. See Reciprocal Borrowing Privileges at Other Libraries.

Any item, whether in the Alvernia collection or not, may be requested through the Interlibrary Loan page.

Journal Articles

Before requesting an article through ILL, please check to see if the article you need is available through one of the Alvernia electronic databases by checking the Full-Text Periodicals Finder.

If the title is not available online please complete the Interlibrary Loan Request Form for Journal & Magazine Articles

Books

Check the Online Catalog to determine availability of materials at Alvernia.

Use the Interlibrary Loan Request Form for Books to request titles owned by Alvernia as well as those held by other libraries.

Materials available at Alvernia will be sent to you via U.S. Mail. Please allow at least 7-10 days for delivery.

When we need to request your materials from other libraries because Alvernia does not own them, we need extra time to receive the materials and then forward them to you. In order to ensure that you receive any requested material in time to support your projects, please allow at least two to three weeks.

In both cases, materials will be sent to the address you specify. You are responsible for the return postage and to return the materials on time.

Renewals

Alvernia Items

Items from the Franco Library Collection may be renewed through the online catalog by logging onto your Patron Record with your student ID number and PIN then selecting Items Checked Out then Renew Selected Items or Renew All.

Interlibrary Loan Items

Renewals from other libraries are permitted only at the discretion of the lending library. If you need to renew an Interlibrary Loan item, please contact Alvernia Interlibrary Loan directly at 610-796-8224 several days before your item is due.
