For general information searches, start your search with the Multiple Topics & Disciplines (EBSCO) database. This database, Academic Search Premier, provides full text coverage to over 4600 publications covering a broad array of subjects. Although smaller than Academic Search Premier, the JSTOR databases also cover multiple subjects and are full text.

For subject specific searches, begin your search in one of the subject databases. The EBSCO business, education, health, psychology and religion databases simultaneously search several databases, including Academic Search Premier.

For more advanced searching options, such as using a subject thesaurus, limit your search to one database rather than searching multiple databases simultaneously. You can select EBSCO databases by choosing the EBSCO Database Selection in the list of databases, or clicking the Choose Database tab when you are searching an EBSCO database.

BookSource: Nonfiction
BookSource:Nonfiction is a research database that contains the full text and informative abstracts for more than 1,600 popular nonfiction books found in school and public libraries. It includes full text articles on literature, social studies, history, and science but also covers high interest information on careers, health, sports, adventure, and technology.

EBSCO Business
EBSCO's Business searches three databases, Business Source ® Premier, Regional Business News ™ and the multidisciplinary Academic Search ™ Premier.

Searches can be limited to the Business Source ® Premier database by going to EBSCO Database Selection. Additional search features are provided when you limit your search to a single database.

CQ Researcher is noted for its in-depth, unbiased coverage of health, social trends, criminal justice, international affairs, education, the environment, technology, and the economy. Each issue provides an introductory overview; background and chronology on the topic; an assessment of the current situation; tables and maps; pro/con statements from representatives of opposing positions; and bibliographies of key sources.

Dissertation & Theses - ProQuest* Search Tips
This database includes doctoral dissertations and master's theses from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities in North America and from around the globe.

Citations for dissertations published from 1980 forward also include 350-word abstracts written by the author. Citations for master's theses from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. Alvernia College has full text access to the humanities and social sciences database of dissertations in digital format starting with titles published from 1997 forward.

Updated daily, this database contains records for all dissertations and theses, and published materials based on theses, cataloged by libraries in WorldCat. The database contains records for over 5 million dissertations, theses, and published materials based on all subjects cataloged by libraries in WorldCat.

Education Journals
ProQuest® Education Journals gives users access to over 700 top educational publications, including nearly 600 of the titles in full text. Image articles include all the charts, tables, diagrams, and other graphical elements often used to enhance the editorial value of articles that focus on education topics. ProQuest Education Journals covers not only the literature on primary, secondary, and higher education but also special education, home schooling, adult education, and hundreds of related topics.

GreenFILE
GreenFILE offers well-researched information covering all aspects of human impact to the environment. Its collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles includes content on global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling, and more. The database provides indexing and abstracts for approximately 295,000 records, as well as Open Access full text for more than 4,600 records.

Health, SportDISCUS & CINAHL
EBSCO's Health searches four databases, CINAHL ®, Health Source ®: Nursing/Academic Edition, SPORTDiscus, and the multidisciplinary Academic Search ™ Premier.

BNA's Human Resources Library provides practical, comprehensive, and timely coverage of workplace issues of interest to HR professionals, consultants, and attorneys.

Mental Measurements Yearbook
Mental Measurements Yearbook, Produced by the Buros Institute at the University of Nebraska, the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. Designed for an audience ranging from novice test consumers to experienced professionals, the MMY series contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. All MMY entries contain descriptive information (e.g., test purpose, publisher, pricing) and edited review(s) written by leading content area experts. MMY provides coverage from Volume 9 to the present.

Multiple Topics & Disciplines - EBSCO
Academic Search ™ Premier contains full text coverage in a broad array of subjects including biology, chemistry, physics, education, health, psychology, religion & theology, and social work. Academic Search ™ Premier contains indexing for 8,200 publications, with full text for more than 4,650 of those titles. Over 6,800 peer-reviewed journals are indexed, with full text for 3,600 titles. PDF backfiles to 1975 or further are available for well over one hundred journals, and searchable cited references are provided for more than 1,000 titles.

NoveList can help you provide the best possible service for your fiction readers of all ages. NoveList, a readers' advisory service, provides access to a database that was selected as a Library Journal Best Reference database.

NoveList K-8
NoveList K-8 allows you to discover the fiction titles that are popular with young readers as well as titles to use in your classroom. With NoveList you can use your students' favorite books (or the books you use in your classes) to find more books to read and use. Full text book reviews are from trusted sources such as Booklist and School Library Journal. Reviews often identify the instructional uses of titles, as well as whether a book is suitable for reading aloud.

Psychology & PsycINFO
EBSCO's Psychology searches two databases, PsycINFO ®, PsycARTICLES®, and the multidisciplinary Academic Search ™ Premier.

Searches can be limited to the PsycINFO database by going to EBSCO Database Selection. This will allow you to search using an electronic version of APA's official Thesaurus of Psychological Index Terms ® .

Religion & ATLAReligion
EBSCO's Religion searches three databases, ATLA Religion Database ™ , Catholic Periodical and Literature Index and the multidisciplinary Academic Search ™ Premier.

Gale Contemporary Authors
We are not able to provide off campus access for this database.

A database that includes biographic details on approximately 100,000 modern novelists, poets, playwrights, nonfiction writers, journalists and scriptwriters. Featured are current writers, the most-studied literary figures of the early 20th Century and authors from around the world whose works have been translated into English or published in the United States. Included are the author's writings, media adaptations, works in progress sidelights and interviews conducted for Contemporary Authors.

JSTOR is a non-profit organization that archives scanned images of journal issues and pages. Alvernia College has access to the two collections listed below:

National Library of Medicine Gateway
The National Library of Medicine Gateway facilitates the simultaneous search of multiple National Library of Medicine information systems, including MEDLINE and PubMed. Users can access citations - some of which link to full text, video, audio and images.

OT Search
The American Occupational Therapy Association OT Search Database covers the literature of occupational therapy and related subject areas, such as rehabilitation, education, psychiatry or psychology, and health care delivery or administration. Some of the records include an abstract of the article. (years of coverage vary from 3 to 15 years)

Philosopher's Index
Philosopher's Index provides indexing and abstracts from books and journals of philosophy. (1940- present, updated quarterly)

ProQuest Criminal Justice Periodical Index
This database covers a broad range of criminal justice topics, including corrections administration, law enforcement, social work, industrial security, drug rehabilitation, and criminal and family law. (dates of coverage: 1981 – present)

WestLaw Campus Research
WestLaw Research Campus is an online legal research tool for students interested in law-related areas such as criminal justice, social work, business, education and law. In addition to primary legal information consisting of case law, and state and federal statutes, this resource provides summaries and analysis of court decisions, law reviews, and synopsis of legal issues.

Ulrich’s Periodicals Directory™ is a bibliographic database providing detailed, comprehensive, and authoritative information on serials published throughout the world. It covers all subjects, and includes publications that are published regularly or irregularly and are circulated free of charge or by paid subscription.

wired.MD streaMed Patient Education Solution
Through this database, you will have access to consumer health and patient education videos that are developed by leading physicians and educators throughout the country. These videos present important information regarding the most common health conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and treatments you may encounter.

In order to view these videos, you need only select a topic and choose the appropriate video player and bandwidth based on your computer and Internet settings. A click of the mouse opens a 5-10 minute video that you can then review. Depending on the display format you choose, you may be able to pause, rewind and replay sections or the entire video.

Databases for Marywood Students
Students taking Marywood University courses at Alvernia College can access Marywood University Library article databases. To obtain a user ID and password, Marywood students must first establish an email account. An account can be established by sending an email message to helpdesk@ac.marywood.edu

Catholic Encyclopedia
Catholic Encyclopedia contains over 11,000 articles related to Catholic interests, action and doctrine. It includes the Summa Theologica, the theological masterpiece of St. Thomas Aquinas, and letters, speeches and books from the earliest Christians.

WorldCat
This Online Union Catalog lists holdings from libraries across the world. Searches can be conducted across all libraries or limited to the Franco Library collection. Searches can be limited to specific formats such as books, Internet or video. (dates of coverage: 2100 B.C. – present)

NetLibrary eBooks
A collection of over 12,000 eBooks is now accessible from NetLibrary. eBooks are full text electronic versions that can be borrowed and returned over the Internet. To access eBooks from off-campus, you must first Create A Free Account from a computer on the Alvernia College computer network. There is a Create A Free Account link in the upper right had corner of the NetLibrary homepage.
