Anti-spyware
We recommend Windows Defender or SpyBot-Search & Destroy be installed on each PC connected to the campus ResNet. Other legitimate choices are Ad-aware, AVG Anti-Spyware, Pest Patrol, Spy Sweeper and Spyware Doctor. Two or three anti-spyware applications can be installed on the same PC to enhance removal of these pests. Along with viruses, malicious spyware programs are the biggest problems we see on student computers. Whether you're on or off campus, you should use these programs to help keep your computer free of spyware.
Impulse Safe•Connect™ Policy Key
The Policy Key is a lightweight software application that ensures the resident student's computer is in compliance with Alvernia’s access policies. The Safe•Connect system recognizes when a computer is not running a Policy Key and redirects the unknown device to a captive registration portal where the user can download a Policy Key.
The Policy Key is extremely lightweight and is installed individually upon first connection to the ResNet network. The Policy Key communicates frequently with the Safe•Connect system to validate security posture and receive policy updates. If the Policy Key is uninstalled or disabled, the Policy Enforcer appliance will immediately disallow network access until the computer is re-registered and a Policy Key is installed.
The Policy Key continually assesses your computer for compliance with the following security policies:
• Authentication
• Anti-Virus
• Anti-Spyware
• Microsoft Patches
• P2P File Sharing
• Access Point
• Custom Policy
If a computer is not in compliance with Alvernia’s network access policies, the Safe•Connect solution delivers individualized remediation guidance and isolates the device from the network until the policy breach is resolved and the computer returns to a state of compliance.
