Crusaders help youth gain interest in reading

The Alvernia Softball Team recently volunteered a Saturday afternoon at the "Family Reading Festival" in Pottsville. This is the second year that the Crusaders have helped with this program.

Sophomore Jackie Torres commented, “As an education major, I really enjoyed the opportunity to work with kids.” Senior Rachel Evans thought the event was a great opportunity to positively influence children. “It was great to be around the kids, to get them interested in reading, and to help them understand the importance of it.”

In addition to class schedules and other print materials, the Alvernia tables offered balloons, prizes, reading-related activities, and candy.
