Ground was broken last fall on two multi-million dollar additions to the Founders Village residence halls. The new state-of-the-art facilities will house 185 students beginning in fall 2012 and help provide on-campus living for the nearly 1,000 students who will be residing on campus.
The units will feature apartments for upperclassmen and innovative suites ideal for small learning communities. A new 18,500-square-foot Campus Commons Center attached to one of the units, will provide a large, two-story fitness center, and a dance/ aerobics studio. A gracious campus “living room,” complete with a fireplace, will be able to accommodate more than 100 students for leisure activities, study, and programs.
"The opportunities this new facility will provide for our students is really exciting," said Abby Swatchick, assistant dean of students and director of student activities. "New space for clubs and organizations, the fitness center, and the living room will enhance the experiences that students can have together."
Construction on the project is well underway, with foundations poured and most exterior walls in place for both of the student resident halls. Work is expected to begin soon on the Campus Commons Center.
