There are not many recent grads who have a resume that showcases two internships in Washington, D.C. but Nicholas DiProfio ‘14 is not your average political enthusiast. The former AU Political Science Club President spent the majority of 2013 learning first-hand the in’s and out’s of American government in our nation’s capital. Through the internships, he attended meetings in the White House where he was introduced to key leaders and members within the department.

“My first internship in the summer was with the Department of the Interior where I worked directly with the Regulatory Affairs staff performing data analysis and entry,” explains the stand out history and political science major. “I also assisted with Congressional Correspondence and sat in on the Congressional document production staff as well.”

“The second internship that fall was with the House of Representatives where I worked directly with the Chief Legislative Correspondent for Representative Candice Miller,” said DiProfio. “Here, I had to have complete knowledge and awareness of all current events, plus understand the response and opinion on all matters so that I could appropriately answer concerns of the constituents through letters, emails and phone calls.”

DiProfio also assisted in the creation and development of briefings on specific pieces of legislature for Representative Miller as well as her Assistant Legislative Director on specific issues related to budget, health care, gun rights, Department of Defense (DOD), Homeland Security (DHS) and immigration.

These real-world experiences have given DiProfio the confidence to continue to follow his political aspirations and pursue law school opportunities with the ultimate goal of running for office someday!
