Admissions

Alvernia College is a transfer-friendly institution. Please be sure to have all prior schools send an academic transcript to the Alvernia College Admissions office so the Financial Aid office can determine your eligibility for financial aid. For more information go to the For Transfers Only section of the Admissions homepage.

Hard work and good grades at your prior institution does pay off! We offer the following Merit scholarships to transfer students:

  • Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship- $2,500 to Phi Theta Kappa members.
  • ARC (Alvernia/RACC Connection) Scholarship-$2,500 to students with a 3.0 GPA & 24 accepted credits from Reading Area Community College.
  • ACT (Alvernia Connects with Transfers) Scholarship-$2,500 to students with a 3.0 GPA & 24 accepted credits from a community college.
  • Transfer Scholarship-$2,500 to students with a 3.0 GPA & 24 accepted credits from a 4-year college.

When you file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) be sure to list Alvernia College as the first-choice college. If you have already filed the FAFSA and did not list Alvernia College, contact our office so we can tell you how to send your information to Alvernia without refiling the FAFSA.

If you have borrowed a Stafford Loan at your prior school and would like a Stafford loan to attend Alvernia, there is no need to file another application. First time borrowers must complete a Master Promissory Note from PHEAA. Loan applications which have already been filed but not yet approved by another school can be transferred to Alvernia College.

If you already have received a Bachelor's degree you will be able to receive Stafford Loans, but will not qualify for any Federal, State, or Alvernia College grants.
