Graduate Assistant – Student Activities

Part-Time – Year Round – 20 Hours Per Week
The student must be enrolled full-time.
(9 credits in the Fall, 9 credits in the Spring, 6 credits in the Summer).

 

Summary of Duties:


The Graduate Assistant will assist in the administrative tasks of the Office of Student Activities. The Graduate Assistant will also have the opportunity to develop their managerial skills by assisting staff with advising student groups and managing events. It is expected that the Graduate Assistant will work collaboratively with the Student Activities team to promote the University’s mission through activities, events and leadership opportunities.

General
  • Occasionally attend Open Houses, Accepted Students Days, and Connections Days as the representative from Student Activities; participate in various institutional events such as Commencement and Orientation as hours permit.
  • Assist Student Activities team with preparations for events and programs.
  • Assist the Director in maintaining accurate and up to date records of all recognized student clubs and organizations.
  • Other duties as requested.
  • Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.

Teaching and Student Development
  • Aid in the advisement of Campus Activities Board (CAB) with the Assistant Director of Student Activities to bring social, educational and cultural programs to campus. Includes attending weekly meetings (1 hour/week), assist in the supervision of activities and supporting students in their overall development.
  • Aid in the advisement of Commuter Council with the Student Activities Programming Assistant to promote community development and a campus connection among the commuter population.
  • Aid in the development and implementation of the leadership co-curriculum.

Assessment and Research
  • Research current trends and best practices in higher education to find cutting-edge leadership and involvement opportunities for students.
  • Conduct assessment of student interest in Student Activities events.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA in graduate education at Alvernia University.
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage time and multi-task appropriately.
  • Function autonomously and as a member of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Role model appropriate behavior.
  • Proven PC skills.
