Graduate Assistant - Honors Program

Part-Time - Year Round - 20 Hours Per Week
The student must be enrolled full-time.
(9 credits in the Fall, 9 credits in the Spring, 6 credits in the Summer).

 

Summary of Duties:

  • Compile and analyze data related to the Honors Program.
  • Track Honors Student progress, retention and graduation rates.
  • Mentor Honors Students, particularly freshmen, through participation in first-year activities and the first-year seminar.
  • Supervise FYS student mentors.
  • Facilitate advising of first year Honors students.
  • Design, organize and participate in Honors Program events throughout the year.
  • Coordinate secretarial support to the Honors Program.
  • Keep updated on trends in Honors education nationally.
  • Research ways to continue to improve the Honors Program at Alvernia.
  • Provide analysis of Honors information for Program Review.
  • Serve as mentor to the Honors Council; serve as liaison between Council and Program Director.
  • Represent the Honors Program to the public, including recruitment events.
  • Work with the Director in providing support to students working on their Honors theses.
  • Research material for and produce the Honors newsletter.
  • Maintain and update the Honors Program webpage.
  • Model professional behavior.
  • Other duties as requested. 
  • Promote Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and current enrollment in an Alvernia graduate program.
  • Minimum of a 3.3 GPA.
  • Demonstrated research experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Self-direction, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
  • Graduate of an Honors Program and completion of an undergraduate thesis are a plus.
